3.3 Strategy development

A strategy can be built by:
  • an individual like the founder of the business or a new CEO.
  • a group of managers.
  • innovative ideas generated within the organisation.
A strategy can be driven or moderated by the organisation's politics and influenced by groups that show their power and demonstrate:
  • Dependency on them.
  • Financial resources that they have and constraints they can bring.
  • Position in the organisation structure.
  • Uniqueness in their activities.
  • Uncertainty protection that they can bring.
A strategy should be a written statement because it important that:
  • all the business understands it
  • provides a framework for any investment or resource allocation.
  • guides innovation.
  • drives performance measures.
