7.4 Value propositions

A value proposition is "a definition of an organisation's product/service that will demonstrate to customers that we understand and can satisfy their needs" and differentiate ourselves from competition.

Kaplan and Norton have advised to think about the 3 core following aspects for defining a relevant value proposition:
  • product/service attributes that define the product itself
    • (functionality, price, quality, choice, availability).
  • customer relationship aspects.
  • image and reputation aspects.
Establishing a value proposition is essential for understanding how organisations deliver needs to their customers and how they try make the difference by either being the most efficient, having the best product or/and providing the best customer service.
