7.7 Improving business processes (to-be business process)

Business rules
Are used in establishing KPI and checking performance.
• Constraints restricting how activities would be performed.
• Operational guidance imposing the respect of procedural rules.

Simplify the process
By eliminating unnecessary tasks or hand-offs. Only those that adds value should remain.

Remove bottlenecks
Examine where there is a capacity mismatch and why and when a task is overloaded,

Change the sequence of tasks
Illogical sequences or unnecessary human intervention on an as-is model should be tackled.

Redefine process boundary
Extending or reducing activities carried out can help simplifying the business (e.g. outsourcing).

Automate the processing
For standardising the work practices, supporting faster and cheaper processes via bespoke IT development, packaged applications, workflow management systems.

Redesign the process
Bringing incremental improvements of an existing process.
